To All Mayne Football Club Members, Supporters and Friends,
The Mayne Football Club would like to acknowledge the passing of Life Member Ronald “Ron” Deighton.
Ron’s life long partner Merle Dawe advised that he passed away last Sunday night peacefully after a few months in nursing care, he was just shy of 85 years.
Ron will be fondly remembered by many Tigers from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s particularly as a hard working volunteer and committee member which followed several years playing for the club in Reserve Grade. He grew up in Clayfield in the era when the Tigers were putting together one of their most formidable squads and the club was never out of the finals. Merle recalls that he forged many friendships with Tigers like Brian Warlow, Barry Coghill, Don Barber and Ewen McDonald to name just a few of the time.
He was a qualified Carpenter and he was always ready to put his skills to work for the club wherever they were needed. In recent times, Ron and Merle have been living at South West Rocks, and moved into a Retirement Village at Frederickton just 2 years ago.
The Mayne Tigers extend their deepest sympathies to Merle and Ron’s family and friends at this sad time.
Ron's funeral will be streamed live tomorrow on Friday 18th February 2022 at 10 a.m, NSW time, so 9 a.m. QLD time. It will be left on the web page for some weeks after.
